Are we always rushing?

It seems as if we are rushing through our moments, and then our whole day…as if something is always pushing at our backs, that nothing is ever enough, or we aren’t ever good enough….! Can we stop long enough to breathe? Can we stop long enough to carefully admire ourselves and all the beauty of our family and friends, neighbors, and all those who work to support us, and all of the natural world?

The Vedic chants contain some beautiful passages that are called suktam.

The literal meaning is “well said” or “sweetly said”. The suktam are a collection of mantra-s that praise and affirm certain powers of a Divine Consciousness and Ability. These mantra-s invoke these powers as we carefully pronounce each syllable, reciting the mantra-s also with loving focused attention on the duration of each syllable, the accents or notes, softly or with focalized breath, continuity, and punctuation.

How would we feel if we prepared the way before us by starting the day breathing deeply, directing the breath and its energy to our upper chest, middle chest, and upper abdomen on the inhale, and exhaling by drawing in the lower abdomen? How would we feel if we then chanted a suktam invoking the power of faith? How would we feel if we then read a spiritual passage and practiced a meditation with one of the mantra?

How would we feel if every time we felt a rushing pushing energy at our backs we brought our thoughts back to the present, and recalled the preparation we had done? (Maybe not while driving or operating heavy machinery or doing any other difficult task.)

Some things to explore and each time something different will be discovered!

To surrender or not to surrender……? That is the question!
